Screening is a general concept that applies to fences that do not fully protect a yard or a garden. Since bamboo is too fragile to stand on its own without supporting beams, bamboo screening requires a fence or wall to support its weight. You can install bamboo screening against any kind of timber, concrete, or chain link framework in your yard or garden. Since bamboo screening comes in pre-assembled rolls, it’s usually pretty easy to mount as well. Use bamboo screening to cover a visually unappealing fence, add an accent wall to your garden, or create a more naturalistic look in your backyard. Learn how to install bamboo fence on chain-link!

With this guide, you will learn how to install bamboo fence on chain-link. Read on to know more!

Step 1

Unroll the bamboo against the chain-link fence. Set your bamboo roll up against the chain-link fence where you want the bamboo to start. Unravel the bamboo in the direction you want to protect. The whole roll has to be set against the chain link fence to mount it, so get the aid of a buddy if the roll is too large and unwieldy.

It’s exceptionally tricky to mount bamboo on both sides of the chain-link fence, so you’d best not do anything on your front yard unless you just want to cover the outside fence.

Step 2

Slide some galvanized wire around the end of the bamboo and the chain link. Get a roll of galvanized wire that is at least three feet (0.91 m) longer than your bamboo roll. Start with either end of the bamboo. Slide the wire around the outside of the first bamboo stalk and drag it to the opposite side of the chain-link fence.

Run the galvanized wire through the bamboo and fence. Wrap the wire around the outside of the fence and thread it through your second bamboo stalk. Continue this method until you have wrapped the wire around every stalk and every section of the chain-link fence.

Tip: If you’re not living in a particularly windy place, feel free to skip a few stalks every time you wrap the wire around the bamboo. For e.g., you can wrap your wire around any third, fourth, or fifth stalk.

Step 3

Loop the wire around the chain link on both ends and crimp it. Pull the wire close on both ends to pull the bamboo up against the fence. Then wrap the excess wire around the chain-link next to each end. Wrap it 3-4 times around the chain and use a crimping tool or channel lock to bend the wire firmly at the end to secure it. Don’t use all your weight to keep the wire close until you crimp it. You can break the bamboo if you pull too hard.

Step 4

Use the zip ties to provide extra support to the top of the fence. Starting at the end of the bamboo at the top, wrap the zip around the first stalk and the chain-link behind it. Run the plastic end through the tiny notch on the other side of the zip and pull it close. Attach additional zip ties every 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) along the top of the roll.

Step 5

Secure your screening by wrapping zip ties around the bottom of the screen. Jump to the bottom of your fence with the top of the fence protected. Starting 1 foot (30 cm) off the ground at the end of your fence, wrap another zip around the bamboo and the chain-link fence. Continue to mount zip ties by inserting them every 6–12 inches (15–30 cm) until you have completely secured your bamboo fence.

What’s A Chain Link Fencing?

Chain connection is one of the oldest framing materials, but it’s still common today. This metal fence material can be a smart choice for commercial and residential applications. Not only is chain-link one of the most economical fabrics, but chain-link is also flexible.

There are several different forms of fencing available for use for different reasons, but chain link fencing stands out. The primary aim of these fences is to protect and enclose sites such as backyards, barns, penitentiaries, government buildings, and construction sites. Chain link fences are preferred for their economic advantages, reliability, and affordability.

It is also ideally suited for both industrial and residential locations. Materials used, such as interlocking and woven wire mesh and steel posts, often make it a better choice for most people. This style of fencing is effective, but it is not the most elegant. Take a peek at the top advantages of chain link fencing.

1. Cost Performance

The explanation that most companies and homeowners choose chain link fencing is that it is cost-effective. This style of fencing is considerably cheaper compared to other available fencing solutions that offer the same facilities in terms of strength and visibility. Most people like it because its price is a fraction of the price of the other options available, but does not compromise on reliability. So, if you’re working on a tight budget, that’s the best choice for you.

2. Protection Clause

As regards the extent of protection it provides, a chain link fence is often referred to as a cyclone fence or hurricane fence. This is because it consists of tightly coated and interlocked steel wires. They are made to have a vertical zigzag pattern, which is then connected to form a diamond shape. These wires are then tied to steel posts, which are firmly anchored to the ground. Due to its degree of security, it is ideal for a wide range of applications at home and in other areas. They are also used to protect airports, military bases, highway projects, and correctional facilities. They’re seeing-through, too. These fences can be built to be more than 12 feet high for added protection.

3. Durability

Chain link fencing is one of the toughest fencing choices out there. The benefit is that they can be made from a wide range of materials. These materials provide a wide range of toughness. Therefore, if your main objective is to get the longest-lasting chain link fence, you can select either vinyl or galvanized steel coated forms. What’s more, customization is done to suit your tastes. These fences are built to endure conditions that others can not easily endure and stay as good as new ones.

4. Comes with a wide range of design choices.

Chain link fences are available in a wide variety of designs. Silver steel color is the most popular choice. There are, however, a range of other designs available. For example, there are color-coated varieties that you can choose from. Fencing materials may also be rendered with a particular thickness or design. If you have limited space, there is a possibility for you. On the other hand, if you have enough space, you still have other choices.

5. Maintenance and repair ease.

This kind of fence is really easy to maintain and fix. Once mounted, there isn’t anything you need to do to keep them in a working state. If they get destroyed for whatever reason, they’re simply cut and replaced.

Why Do You Mount Bamboo Fencing On The Chain Link Fence?

As a construction material, bamboo has many desirable advantages. However, if you already have a chain-link fence built, you might wonder if the benefits outweigh those of a chain link.

Installing bamboo fences over existing chain links offers many advantages, including improved aesthetics, cost efficiency, and increased privacy.

1. Improves the Fencing Link Chain Look.

The key advantage of bamboo over chain connection is the esthetic appeal. Chain link is not considered to be one of the most desirable framing materials — while it is practical, it is not built to look stunning. Alternatively, bamboo is renowned for its elegance and charm. Installing a wall of bamboo over a weary and worn chain link or wire fence will breathe new life into your space, raise property value, and curb appeal.

In addition, bamboo can be easily customized to produce a wide range of designs and looks. Although the chain-link has just a few variants, bamboo is available in a wide variety of colors, heights, and designs, keeping your property fresh and trendy.

2. Simple to mount.

Installing bamboo over chain link is a simple and reasonably easy operation, unlike other types of bamboo fences. You don’t need to be a specialist or employ a contractor to mount bamboo over a chain link. If you have a free afternoon, some high-quality bamboo, pins, and wire, you can easily change the look of your house.

The ease of installation is one of the most enticing aspects of installing bamboo over chain link — it takes what would otherwise be a time-consuming process and makes it available to anyone who loves a DIY project.

3. Save your money.

Instead of completely removing your current fence, adding a bamboo layer on top of it would save you time and money.

Removing and rebuilding the fencing system requires tremendous effort, time, and monetary expenditure. Second, you have to dismantle the current fence, which is always time-consuming and hard work. You have to install a new bamboo fence after you have removed the old fence. However, building a new bamboo fence from scratch is more difficult than adding one to the current framework — it requires more precision and therefore takes a substantial amount of time.

Alternatively, securing bamboo fencing to chain link is much more affordable, and because of bamboo strength and longevity, it saves you time and money both in the long term and in the short term.

Final Words

Across the world, many cultures depend on the beauty and resilience of bamboo for a variety of uses — from musical instruments to artwork, bamboo is a highly versatile material. Bamboo, however, excels in particular as a building and fencing material. If you’re looking for a fence that is an intricate piece of art or plain and practical, bamboo is the perfect material. Using bamboo instead of conventional hardwood lumber is a perfect way to keep your landscape beautiful and environmentally friendly. Bamboo is an outstanding fencing material that is as appealing to the eye as it is to the budget. Hopefully, this guide helped you know more about how to install a bamboo fence on chain-link!
